Over the past year I have grown a strong love for maternity photography. To be honest, if I could get away with specializing in just editorial black and white maternity photos, I would in a heartbeat. As cliche as it may be to say, the female body is incredible. Our bodies’ capabilities aren’t celebrated enough, so I’ve loved being able to do so through editorial and documentary photography. In doing so I’ve grown a passion for making mothers and moms to be feel loved, appreciated, and beautiful, especially during such a delicate time. So much so that last month I decided to offer beachfront motherhood mini photo sessions to celebrate Mother’s Day.
When Chelsea, who I learned was pregnant with her second child, decided to upgrade her motherhood mini photoshoot at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, CT to a full photo session with additional film photography, my heart fluttered. More time with Chelsea meant more time to properly capture this chapter in her life – motherhood, family, and pregnancy, on digital and film.
During my time with this sweet Connecticut family, I captured the quiet moments, the loud chaotic moments, the beautifully intimate moments, and the honest wholesome moments. The family photos were shot documentary style. While Chelsea’s maternity photos were more editorial and naturally posed. Using a blend of digital and film photography, I was able to artistically convey each emotion of each moment I photographed during this New England coastal photoshoot.
